AKU-EB Conducts 5-Day Workshop at Kohat University of Science and Technology

April 30, 2012

“We learnt (tool development) techniques which were never discussed before. All resource persons were very cooperative and knowledgeable ...,” one of the 28 participants excitedly endorsed the effectiveness of AKU-EB’s five-day workshop on Testing and Assessment in the Semester System conducted at the Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST).

The Workshop was held in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan as part of a series of three workshops conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwah (KPK) within the last six months. It was designed to assist the faculty members of the University and its affiliated colleges to smoothly transition from Annual Examination System to Semester Assessment System.

The interactive Workshop focused on achieving the following objectives:

  • Highlight the importance of assessment tools such as multiple-choice, constructed response, and essay type questions; discussed case-studies and portfolios
  • Provide hands-on experience of developing, peer-reviewing and critiquing items
  • Help evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of an item through critical feedback

AKU-EB also supplied supplementary reading material to each attendee to help enhance their knowledge. Almost 93% of the participants found the workshop to be highly beneficial and expressed the need for such workshops on a regular basis.

The Additional Secretary Higher Education, KPK, Dr Khalid Khan visited KUST and also came to one of the sessions along with the Chancellor of KUST. Both spoke highly of AKU EB’s contribution in enhancing the quality of Education. In his letter of appreciation, Muhammad Naeem Butt, PhD, Director of Institute of Education and Research at KUST also commended the quality and effectiveness of the workshop.
